Urban Flood Management

Hydrological analysis of a major Papua New Guinea River and a hydraulic model of a town’s Beach Development.

Flood hydrology was modeled using the rainfall-runoff routing program RORB. Hydraulic modeling was carried out using a HEC-RAS model of the study area.

  • A HEC-RAS model included both a two-dimensional grid to represent flow channels and culvert structure elements.

  • Flood maps were produced for the River catchment for the design of floods extending over the potential flood-prone areas of the River catchment.
